Copa America quarterfinal, Brazil vs. Paraguay: a tactical analysis.
Brazil’s strategy was “Don’t score, go down to ten men, sub out three of your best offensive players, and be sure to miss every penalty of the final shootout for the first time in Copa America’s history.” It worked.
Paraguay’s strategy was “Don’t get scored on even if you go down to ten men, have a fantastic goalkeeper covered by a solid defense, and score a few of your penalties in the final shootout.” It also worked.
